About Us.

Our Winery Is A Family Affair.

Alan and Judy Olson began growing grapes in 1994. After making the decision to abandon the organic gardening plan, they began looking for something new. Bringing grape cuttings home from the farm of Elmer Swenson, they had no idea how these plant stems would change their plans and their future. In 2010 they opened Wild Mountain Winery in what is now the “Bottle Shop.” It was a small operation and a leap of faith into a new and inexperienced endeavor. Over ten years later, the vineyards and winery are considered one of the premier operations in MN.

Chisago County, 2013 Farm Family of the Year

Alan and Judy Olson purchased their farm near Almelund in 1982.  Twelve years after purchasing the farm, the couple determined from researching options that the land was well suited for grape growing.  In 2008, they started making their own wine, and in 2010, after having won many ribbons at the Minnesota State Fair, they opened a winery.  Today the Olson’s, with kids Andrew, Mark and Jane grow grapes, buy and sell wine, and operate the winery.    This all takes place on 15.5 acres of land located on the second highest point in Chisago County.
